Unilock Construction in Ontario, CA | Alder Contractors
We’re Alder Contractors, and we install and service Unilock paver and wall systems across Ontario, California, including Unilock service in Chino. We’re an independent contractor, not a Unilock dealership or authorized service center. What sets our Unilock work apart in Ontario is that we know the older northeast neighborhoods around 91761 and 91764 have raised foundations, narrow side yards, and aging utility laterals buried exactly where you’d want to run a paver border or driveway edge. Call (833) 467-7020 for a free estimate.
Why Ontario Residents Choose Us for Unilock Service
We’ve been laying Unilock pavers in the Inland Empire long enough to know which lines hold up under Ontario’s particular conditions. Brussels Block on a properly compacted base handles the heat. Piso permeable pavers work with the dry climate instead of fighting it. Umbriano’s smooth face looks right on a mid-century stucco house but fades faster under unshaded sun than most people expect.
Nelson Ibarra grew up in the Willow Avenue corridor of Rialto and spent nearly three decades building across San Bernardino County before founding Alder Contractors. He learned the trade at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga and from his father, a drywall finisher who brought him to job sites on weekends. That background means we don’t guess at base prep or drainage. We measure, compact in lifts, and set edge restraint the way Ontario’s soil transitions demand.
We’re not tied to a Unilock franchise so we don’t push a catalog line that doesn’t fit your lot. We specify the paver that works for your soil, your drainage, and your sun exposure. If a repair only needs a few matching units and fresh joint sand, we’ll tell you that instead of quoting a full rebuild.

Common Unilock Construction Problems We Solve in Ontario
- Rutting and base failure on Brussels Block driveways. We see this most on the older Ontario lots where the original aggregate base was compacted too thin over the transition from slab-on-grade to raised foundation. The driveway sags in a band, water pools, and pavers start to rock. The fix is pulling the affected section, rebuilding the base in lifts, and resetting the units with proper edge restraint. We pothole around gas and water laterals before we dig, because on these narrow 1950s lots the utility lines sit shallow.
- Joint sand washout and paver migration on Piso systems during Santa Ana events. Ontario gets the same dry, dusty wind that pushes through the Cajon Pass. When Piso permeable pavers are installed with builder-grade silica sand, or with polymeric sand installed wet, the joints erode and the pavers drift. We rejoint with quality polymeric sand and the migration stops.
- UV fading and surface chalking on darker Umbriano and Onyx pavers. Ontario’s summer sun is relentless. Unshaded Umbriano patios look chalky after five or six years. We can’t reverse UV damage, but we can rejoint, clean, and recommend a lighter paver for unshaded sections when a patio needs expansion.
- Efflorescence and salt bloom on Beacon Hill Flagstone patios. This pops up where drainage falls back toward the house or where irrigation overspray keeps the surface damp. The white bloom looks like a paver defect but it’s moisture wicking through the concrete. We correct the drainage or adjust the irrigation, then clean and rejoint the surface.
- Edge course spalling against stucco stem walls. On 1950s-70s tract homes in Ontario with narrow setbacks, pavers sometimes get cut with a dry saw and laid tight against a stucco wall. No expansion room means the edge units spall. We recut with a wet saw and leave the proper gap for a clean, lasting edge.
Unilock Service in Ontario: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Ontario’s residential core in 91761, 91762, and 91764 was built on narrow lots with aging utility laterals. That’s not a problem on the open tilt-up warehouse parcels along the I-10 and 60 corridors, but on the older streets near downtown it changes how paver work gets priced and sequenced. Before we lay a driveway or run a patio border, we hand-dig and pothole near the property line to locate gas, water, and sewer lines. On a lot where the house sits on a raised foundation and the approach drops down to the sidewalk, that transition zone is where most base failures start. We build the base to bridge that transition, not just cover it. We also schedule compaction and jointing for early mornings because Ontario’s summer heat pushes concrete and polymeric sand past their working window fast.
Unilock Models & Products We Service in Ontario
We install and repair the Unilock lines that perform in this climate, including Brussels Block and the Brussels Dimensional System, Piso permeable interlocking slabs, Beacon Hill Flagstone, and the smooth-face Umbriano and Onyx pavers. When we do a repair or expansion, we source genuine Unilock units and matching edge restraints so color and dimension stay consistent with your existing work. We keep common-thickness Brussels Block and edge restraint on hand for faster turnaround in Ontario, and we order the less common lines direct so you’re not waiting on a distributor’s stock cycle. For jointing we use quality polymeric sand, not builder-grade silica, because Ontario’s wind and dust will expose cheap joint fill within a season.

AfterUnilock Service Pricing in Ontario
What you’ll pay depends on the size of the job, whether we’re repairing an existing base or building new, and how much hand-digging or potholing your lot requires. Here’s where typical Ontario Unilock work lands, and we also offer Unilock repair in Montclair:
| Service | Typical Ontario Range |
|---|---|
| Paver Patio Installation | $3,500 – $11,000 |
| Paver Driveway Installation | $7,000 – $18,000 |
| Home Addition (with hardscape tie-in) | $45,000 – $130,000 |
Every estimate includes a walkthrough, a line-by-line scope, and a written quote. We don’t quote over the phone without seeing your lot, because a narrow Ontario side yard with an old gas lateral changes the dig plan and the price. Call (833) 467-7020 to schedule a free estimate.

FAQs – Unilock Construction in Ontario
Yes, we source genuine Unilock Brussels Block units so color and dimension stay consistent with your existing layout. If your older pavers have faded, we’ll talk through blending options before we start so the repaired section doesn’t look like a patch. Call (833) 467-7020 for an exact quote on your specific driveway.
That’s almost always joint sand that was installed wet or wasn’t polymeric. Ontario’s Santa Ana winds are dry and fast, and loose silica sand erodes quickly. We rejoint with quality polymeric sand that sets dry and stays put. The fix is straightforward, and you’ll stop sweeping sand after every wind event.
In most Ontario residential cases, replacing a driveway surface with pavers over the existing approach doesn’t require a permit, but we verify with the City of Ontario before we start. If your lot has drainage easements or encroachment on the public right-of-way, that changes the rules. We handle the check as part of the estimate so you never have to chase the planning counter yourself.
Piso pavers are designed for permeable installations, which work with Ontario’s dry climate because they let what little rain we get soak through instead of sheeting across the surface. Dust from the Santa Anas will settle in the joints, but the permeable base handles it. The key is a clean, open-graded base installed correctly, not just pavers laid on sand.
Usually it’s a base and drainage problem, not a paver problem. Ontario’s older 1960s tract homes often have irrigation overspray or drainage that falls toward the house, which wicks moisture through the pavers and leaves salt bloom. Heaving comes from a thin or poorly compacted base. We fix both. Call (833) 467-7020 to have us look at the walk.
