PGT Construction in Claremont, CA | Alder Contractors
We provide independent PGT window and door installation, repair, and replacement across Claremont, CA, and PGT in Montclair. What makes our PGT work here different is that we know how Claremont’s design-review process and foothill wind conditions shape every window decision you’ll make. If you’re weighing PGT impact windows against your historic home’s character or wildfire hardening needs, call us at (833) 467-7020 for a straight answer and a free estimate.
Why Claremont Residents Choose Us for PGT Service
We’ve handled PGT WinGuard and SolarGard units in Claremont’s Craftsman bungalows, Spanish Colonial Revivals, and hillside ranches long enough to know what fails and what holds. Nelson Ibarra grew up in the Willow Avenue corridor of Rialto and spent nearly three decades working Inland Empire homes before founding Alder Contractors. His father, a drywall finisher, dragged him to job sites on weekends as a kid, and the trade stuck. That background means we approach PGT work the way a builder would: check the rough opening, the flashing, the wind exposure, and the review board’s requirements before touching a single screw. We’re an independent contractor, not a PGT dealer, so our recommendations are based on what your Claremont home actually needs, not what we’re incentivized to sell.
Our material access spans 50+ brand partners, but when it comes to windows and doors, PGT is a line we trust for this climate. Whether you need PGT sales & service guidance or a full replacement, we walk you through OEM versus aftermarket options without the sales pressure.

Common PGT Construction Problems We Solve in Claremont
- Rot and failed flashing on older wood-clad PGT units. Claremont’s early-1900s Craftsman and Spanish Colonial homes often have original PGT wood-clad windows with rotted sills and no sill pans. North-facing walls stay damp longer, and water sneaks behind stucco before you ever see a stain. We rebuild the opening, add proper flashing, and install a unit that won’t repeat the failure.
- Warped vinyl frames and failed seals from foothill UV exposure. The San Gabriel foothills bake south- and west-facing windows all summer. Vinyl PGT frames without adequate overhangs heat-cycle until seals crack and sashes bind. We see this constantly on mid-century ranch tracts north of Foothill Blvd.
- Santa Ana wind damage above Foothill Blvd. Wind-borne debris cracks glass and damages impact interlayers on exposed elevations. Homes in the hillside neighborhoods catch the worst of it. We repair or replace damaged PGT units and address the mounting details that let wind flex the frame in the first place.
- Missing ember-resistant detailing in wildfire zones. PGT windows installed without enhanced flashing and ember seals can fail during ember showers in the wildland-urban interface above town. This is a life-safety issue, not a comfort upgrade, and we treat it that way.
- Design-review mismatches on street-facing windows. If a previous owner swapped in a PGT unit that doesn’t match the home’s period profile or muntin pattern, the city can flag it. We correct those installations with units that pass review and still perform.
PGT Service in Claremont: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Here’s what a generic PGT page won’t tell you: in Claremont, the window you’re allowed to install is often decided before you pick a model. The city’s design-review and historic-preservation ordinances mean street-visible window replacements in the Village and near the Claremont Colleges typically require architectural approval. PGT units must match period profiles and muntin patterns, not just hit energy codes. A neighbor in Pomona or someone seeking PGT service in La Verne faces a much lighter permitting path. That extra layer of coordination changes everything: you need a contractor who can speak to the review board, spec a divided-light pattern that reads period-correct, and still deliver a PGT WinGuard unit rated for the wind loads your elevation actually sees. We handle that coordination so you don’t have to sit through a third revision meeting.
We also work throughout the broader Claremont service area, including the foothill streets where wind exposure and fire-hardening concerns drive window selection just as much as aesthetics do.
PGT Models & Products We Service in Claremont
We work on the PGT WinGuard Aluminum Series, WinGuard Vinyl Series, SolarGard Series, and Architectural Series. For any repair, we source OEM PGT replacement parts whenever available: glass, hardware, weatherstripping. That keeps warranty coverage and performance where they should be. On older or discontinued lines, we use high-quality aftermarket equivalents that meet or exceed original specs. We’ll tell you plainly when a repair makes sense and when replacement is the smarter spend. Most common PGT hardware and seal components are available to us quickly, which keeps Claremont turnaround tight.

FAQs – PGT Construction in Claremont
If your windows face the street and you’re in the Village or near the colleges, yes, architectural review is likely required before installation begins. The city checks period profiles, muntin patterns, and overall Village character. We handle the submittal and the review board correspondence. Call (833) 467-7020 and we’ll tell you early whether your project triggers review.
PGT WinGuard units are engineered for high-wind zones and do well here when installed with proper frame anchoring. What we see fail in Claremont is almost always the installation detail around the frame, not the glass itself. Above Foothill Blvd, wind speeds peak and a sloppy rough opening will flex the unit until seals crack. That’s why we rebuild openings rather than doing drop-in swaps.
Seal failure usually means the insulated glass unit needs replacement, not the entire window. If your PGT frame is square and the hardware is solid, we swap the IGU with an OEM or spec-matching unit and you’re done. If the frame has warped or the sash is binding, replacement becomes the better call. We’ll give you an honest answer after we inspect it.
Narrow, tall units with divided-light patterns read most period-correct on Spanish Colonial Revival homes here. PGT’s Architectural Series offers the profile flexibility needed to keep a street-facing elevation looking right under design review. We’ll match the muntin layout to your home’s original detailing and spec impact glass that doesn’t compromise the look.
PGT’s impact-rated units can contribute to a fire-hardened envelope, but the window alone isn’t the whole story. Ember-resistant flashing, proper sill pans, and upgraded sealing details are what stop ember showers from turning into structure fires. We install PGT units with those details built in, because a window meeting code on paper doesn’t help if the rough opening catches an ember first. Call (833) 467-7020 to talk through your home’s exposure.
